About Us - Stewart N. Mayer

Stewart Mayer, a founding partner of Nexum, has brought to the company many years of in-depth, hands-on experience in real estate development and project management, both in entrepreneurial roles and as upper management in large corporate environments.

Stew graduated with honors from the College of Environmental Design at the University of California at Berkeley, where he majored in both Architecture and Construction Technology.  Since then, his professional career as a registered Architect, general contractor, and licensed real estate professional, has spanned the real estate development process from the early phases of site acquisition, conceptual design, and financial feasibility, through governmental approval processes, marketing studies, technical development and the turnkey construction process

As the Western Regional project manager for Oxford Development Corp, reporting directly to executive management in Indianapolis and Washington DC, he built projects exceeding 19 million dollars in construction value and negotiated individual construction contracts in excess of 4 million dollars.

Appointed by the Governor’s Office, State of California as Chief Architect, Stew successfully oversaw the project development of a joint state/federal governmental effort developing over 25 simultaneous projects exceeding 85 million dollars annually.  He concurrently served as an advisor to the State’s Office of Appropriate Technology in the area of energy efficiency in state office buildings and over 3700 subsidized residential units.

Stew’s project portfolio includes development and construction of commercial projects, residential and retirement communities, rehabilitation, renovation, and infill development, from single-family homes to projects exceeding 400 acres in size. 

Stew continues to oversee Nexum’s real estate development efforts, often in co-ventures with other development partners. As an outdoorsman and committed environmentalist, he has continued to pursue environmentally sensitive development projects and has positioned Nexum as a pioneer in “smart-growth” innovative planning, energy conserving design and construction techniques, both domestically and in Nexum’s “eco-resort” ventures in the Caribbean.
